Track Notes
Florence
Florence was inspired by Hurricane Florence, which made landfall in North Carolina on September 14, 2018. The piece later became the opening track for nearly every Cat5 Band performance over a five-year period. It was consistently requested by audiences as the show opener. To enhance its impact, I incorporated a news weather broadcast overlay, giving the track a more dramatic and engaging introduction.
Bar Room Funk
Bar Room Funk draws inspiration from the theme music of the television series Sanford and Son (1972–1977). This piano-driven track was used for several years as the opening theme for the Top 20 Countdown on 94.9 FM in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
More Than Ever
More Than Ever is an original composition written by Tim Sidden. The song was written and recorded the night before my wedding, and I later created a soundtrack version to perform at the ceremony. The version included in this project is a re-recording with a new arrangement, one verse removed, and was released to Beach Music Radio several years after the original recording.
Testify to Love
Originally recorded by Wynonna Judd, Testify to Love was a staple of our performances at the Carolina Opry for many years. I rearranged the song and recorded the original track in 2003, continuing to refine and develop it over the next several years.
Nervous Breakdown
Nervous Breakdown was originally performed by Brad Paisley. I rearranged the song, with initial recording sessions completed in 2003. Additional tracks and production elements were added over the following years. This song features two of my favorite Instrumetalist, Herb Humphreys on Lead Guitar and David Johnson on Fiddle, Steel and Banjo.
Carolina Queen
Carolina Queen was recorded approximately 15 years ago and released to Beach Music Radio, where it gained significant popularity. Its success led to the production of branded merchandise, including T-shirts and other promotional items featuring the song title.
Shazoom
Shazoom was developed as a sync track and has been used as the backing music for multiple advertising campaigns worldwide.
Oscar
Oscar is a slow, reflective piano instrumental arranged during a late-night session and inspired by the legendary jazz pianist Oscar Peterson. The piece captures a melancholic mood while paying tribute to his influence.
You Make Me Crazy
You Make Me Crazy was originally written and performed by Sammy Hagar. Drawn to the energy and character of the song, I rearranged and produced my own version specifically for Beach Music Radio.
I’ll Fly Away
I’ll Fly Away is a traditional gospel standard that I performed in various arrangements at the Carolina Opry over several years. This recording reflects those live interpretations. This song features myself on piano and Herb Humphreys on Lead Guitar.
Break It Down
Break It Down is a piano instrumental that I arranged and produced, featuring performances by several close friends and collaborators, including my dear friend Herb Humpreys on Guitar, as well as one of my musical heroes, David Johnson.
Ain’t Nothing Better
Ain’t Nothing Better was performed live by The Cat 5 Band and recorded during the group’s highly popular COVID-era concert produced during the shutdown. This track is the only live performance included on the album.
